Infertility is Scary

infertility is scary

Infertility is scary.

We’re afraid our treatments won’t work. We’re afraid we’ll go broke in the process. We’re afraid of what it will do to our bodies and our relationships. We’re afraid of what people will think if we decide to stop treatment or if we decline to pursue adoption.

How do we keep the fear away?

I can’t pretend that I’ve figured out the answer to that question just yet. But I do know I’ve kept moving in spite of fear.

Perhaps that’s part of the answer – to keep moving, keep going, keep pushing through it.

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. – Nelson Mandela

Another way I keep moving is remembering that God promises to give me strength in scary times.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

What do you do when fear creeps in?  Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

  • This is such a well written entry. Fear is so hard to keep at bay, fear of succeeding only to miscarry, fear of not succeeding, fear of wrong choices and so much more. I try to push through the fears, some days I succeed and some days I dont

Yes, it’s definitely one of those “two steps forward, one step back” things for me sometimes.

Fear was my worst enemy. Fear turned into anxiety, and eventually depression. I tried therapy, acupuncture, working out, etc. The only thing that seemed to help was daily meditation for 30-45 minutes. Only when I calmed my mind and asked for my higher purpose instead of a baby, was I successful. It was an arduous road.

So glad you made it through, Jen!

  • I love 2 Timothy 1:7 – I just remind myself that fear is NEVER from the Lord!

Thanks Caroline. That’s a great verse.

  • The moment it creeps in, I recognize who it is from (the enemy) and tell it to flee and then I start digging through scripture looking for verses (if I don’t already know some) that counteracts what the enemy is trying to tell me. 🙂 xo

      Amen, Elisha!

  • Love that quote by Nelson Mandela. It reminds me of one by Mark Twain. We have to face the fear in our lives to be able to move forward. Otherwise fear can be paralyzing. Thanks for all your work in educating about infertility. I love it! You are making a difference.

  • Thank you for being so honest with your struggles. May your words reach many.

  • What a wonderful linkup! I pray it will be community and comfort to many women! Thanks for linking it up with the Faith and Fellowship Blog Hop!
