You may have seen the New Year’s post I wrote about my goal to eat better for my upcoming IVF cycle.
I did awesome for about 10 days and then I had a MAJOR FAIL.
I caught the virus that everyone in the country seems to have. I can’t remember the last time I was that sick. I coughed non-stop for about 2 weeks and could hardly speak. I missed 5 days of work!
The problem was that all the coughing made it impossible to eat anything except soft, moist food. So my options were basically soup and mashed potatoes. I managed to keep up my daily glass of V8, but the apples and cruciferous veggies were out of the question.
Once I stopped coughing, I could eat more foods, but I was still feverish and couldn’t make it to the grocery store. Thank goodness for frozen pizza, but so much for my limited gluten-intake!
Thanks to codeine cough syrup I got when I finally went to the doctor, I’ve had a few nights of good sleep and I feel like a normal human being again. My husband said I deserved a glass of wine and potato chips, and I agreed. Unfortunately, it turned into a whole bag of potato chips, but oh well….
Now it’s a new week, and I’m determined to get back on track.I’m looking forward to get back on track this week. I already passed up free donuts at work today, so I’m feeling confident!

Oh girl, I hear you. I went from no carbs to carbaholic over night. Once those eggs were out, and I felt like crap from the anesthesia, I couldn’t think of green, leafy things or protein without gagging… it’s kind of still like that. But good for you for going back to it! I think that’s always the hardest part! It’s so hard to start back after binging… you feel like a failure so you figure you should just keep failing! Really hoping you see some good quality eggs from all of your hard work!
Thanks, Amanda! I just try to take it a day at a time!
Sorry you had a such a tough month! I have been on and off this wagon all month! But I’m back up there with you! I passed up a cupcake yesterday! *Small victories*…
Yes to small victories!
Oh girl! So sorry to hear about your virus!!! Keep us updated on how you do!! Cheering for you!
Thanks, Caroline! I’m finally starting to feel better.
Oh girl, being sick is the worst! Hope you are feeling better now. The good thing about any healthy eating plan is that it is just like driving. If you take a turn down a dead end road, you can always do a 180 and turn back around!
I hope you’re feeling better! I still have a little bit of that cough, but improving each day!
I hope you feel better soon, being sick is awful.
I wish I had found you while going through our IF journey. What a great, encouraging resource!
It always seems like when I make an effort to make something better, life gets in the way. Just stay focused now that you’re better and get back on track!
Just because you have a set back doesn’t mean you are doomed to fail! Keep on taking tiny steps to eating healthier and you will be there before you know it!
Glad your doing better and back on track. Great job, you can do it!
Being sick is never fun, but especially not now! Glad you are feeling better and eating better. Stopping by from SITS Comment Love.
I think I caught the same cold. It seemed to hang on forever. I hope you are feeling better!
Oh man- I lost five pounds in January but haven’t moved since. My family has not shaken the colds going around and I have been running on sugar! It’s so hard this time of year.
