Well, the title says it all. Our first and second betas for our frozen cycle ended up negative. It was a terrible morning. Not only were the results negative, but the morning was so full of drama.
I had my first beta last Wednesday. My RE does not disclose the results of the 1st beta until after the 2nd beta so we were super-nervous when we arrived at 9am on Friday for the second blood draw. We noticed our RE’s car wasn’t in the parking lot when we arrived, but we thought perhaps he was just caught in traffic.
Long story short, we sat the in blood draw room for almost an hour waiting for the RE to show up. This is highly unusual for my RE’s office as I’d never waited for more than 15 minutes, and they are always extremely professional. I was nearly sick from nerves while waiting. Then all of a sudden we hear the back door open. I couldn’t see from where I was seated, but my husband saw the RE come in and it was apparent that he was not well. Finally, about 10 minutes later the assistant comes in and says there’s a medical emergency and they won’t be able to do our second beta.
We’re ushered into another room and my husband asks for the results of the first beta. The assistant says it was negative, but they still want us to get a second beta just in case. They gave us orders for the lab at the local hospital and it took another hour to drive there, get registered, and have the labs done.
I talked to the medical assistant today and apparently the RE had a medical emergency and had to go to the emergency room. He was admitted to the hospital overnight and had more tests done. She didn’t tell us any details, but said he was back at work today. We’re glad he’s okay. Obviously, we were very concerned for him. Plus, it was pretty scary to think about what would happen to us (and all the other patients) if the RE was unable to practice for awhile (it’s a solo practice and he’s the only doctor).
The days since have been pretty rough, and I’m grateful we had a 3-day weekend that gave us some time and space to process things. I’m very sad and I’m sure the hormone withdrawal doesn’t help. I had a scary and intense hot flash on Sunday that left me sweaty, flushed, and sobbing at my parents’ dinner table. Luckily, I only have one more week left of work until my summer break, so I’m looking forward to some time to recover.
We plan on jumping right into another fresh cycle in July. I’ll post updates as we figure things out. I’m so grateful for all yours prayers and support!
