A couple takes a honeymoon after getting married, and a baby moon before the impending birth of a child. So what does one call a trip after failed infertility treatments?
A no-baby moon?
We were in a pretty low spot after receiving our negative beta last Sunday. Our 3rd anniversary was on Thursday and we hadn’t planned on going away, but we decided we really needed to get out of town and recover / relax.
We spent a few days at an inn in Saratoga. I lived close to Saratoga while we were dating, and one of our first dates was at a coffee shop there, so it was nice to revisit it and reminisce a little bit.
Saratoga is a pretty sleepy town, so we didn’t do much, but that was the point. We walked around, did a little wine tasting, ate well, watched TV, and read.
My favorite part was getting pedicures at a super-nice day spa. It was Tom’s first pedicure ever, and I had to explain to him that most pedicures don’t involve huge, plush recliners and warm neck pillows in dimly-lit rooms that smell like heaven.
The pedicures also included complimentary champagne. This came in handy when the nail technician asked me if I’d had a baby yet. “Nope, not yet,” I responded, and took a huge swig.
Now we’re home and it’s back-to-work for both of us. It’s going to be a long autumn, but I’m so glad we were able to take a few days to recharge and reconnect before heading into this season.
