I often ask the people I interview if they’ve been able to find a “silver lining” in their infertility. One of silver linings I’ve discovered is the generosity of other people who have been through infertility, too.
A few weeks ago I tweeted that my RE had recommended my husband try Proxeed during our break from treatments. I wanted to know where I could get it at the cheapest price, since it is kind of expensive. I immediately received a private message from someone offering to give some unused Proxeed she had left over. (I haven’t asked her if I can share this story, so I won’t publicly identify her here). Her husband took it before one of their treatments and now she’s pregnant.
I was blown away by her generosity! I asked her to let me pay the shipping costs and she refused. She said someone was very generous to them during their treatments and she wanted to pay it forward. We received the Proxeed in the mail yesterday and my husband started taking it right away!
I’ve seen this happen over and over again in the online infertility community. I read almost daily about people who receive cards, gifts, and encouraging emails from people they’ve never met in real life. I’ve even been the recipient of a few of those myself!
So, in an effort to pay it forward (and to give you all an opportunity to pay it forward, too), I want to announce the Autumn Card Swap! It’s a cheap way for each of you to send an encouraging note to someone else AND to receive a note yourself.
Here’s How It Will Work:
- Use the form below to submit your name and mailing address. (If you’re reading this on a mobile device or in a blog reader (like Feedly), you may need to click through to the website). Don’t worry, I won’t give your information to anyone else other than your card swap partner.
- I’ll randomly match you up with someone else. Most of my readers are in the U.S., but if you are from another country I’ll try to match you up with someone in your same country in order to keep postage costs low.
- I’ll send out the matches by Friday, September 12.
- You agree to send your partner an encouraging card or letter by October 1. I’ll send you an email or two reminding you of the deadline.
UPDATE 9/12/14: THE CARD SWAP SIGN UP IS NOW CLOSED.
