“For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields. And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your children.” – Isaiah 44:3 (NLT)
Praying for our future children can be a tremendous act of faith and trust in God. It’s something we can do regardless of whether children come to us through pregnancy, surrogacy, or adoption.
Many of us have boxes, closets, or rooms full of baby items we’ve collected in anticipation of being a parent one day. Our prayers can be another form of gift-giving to our future children.
What can you pray for your future child? Here are some suggestions:
That they would know God
- Matthew 19:13-15
- 2 Timothy 2:10
That they would love His word
- Deuteronomy 6:6-7
- Psalm 19:10
- Psalm 119:97
That they would be confident of who they are in Christ
- Jeremiah 1:5
- 1 Peter 2:9
- 1 John 3:1-2
That they would love and serve others
- Colossians 3:12
- 1 Tim 6:18-19
If you’re ready to take a bigger leap of faith, consider books like The Power of a Praying Parent, Praying Circles Around Your Children, or Praying the Scriptures for Your Children to guide you as your pray for your children on an even more regular basis.
As you pray today, ask God to bring to mind other blessings you can be praying over your future children.
