Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. – Psalm 51:12
My parents will tell you I was an obedient child. I remember realizing at a very young age that obeying my parents really was the best thing for me. I understood that the things my parents wanted me to do were for my own good and meant to protect me.
But obedience doesn’t seem as black-and-white when you’re an adult trying to figure out what it means to obey God in the midst of infertility. It’s not like He’s given us a list of the Infertility Commandments.
Sometimes we’re not sure what He wants us to do.
And we don’t always have confidence that what He’s asking us to do is in our best interest.
I think this is where prayer comes in. Oswald Chambers gives us this lovely quote:
One great effect of prayer is that it enables the soul to command the body. By obedience I make my body submissive to my soul, but prayer puts my soul in command of my body.
Even when we’re not sure what God is asking us to do, prayer get our souls in the right place to obey when we do hear His voice. Without prayer, it’s much more difficult to hear God’s voice and instruction.
As you pray today, ask God to help you hear His voice and obey it.
