Have you ever done something without really thinking it through?
I recently did something that was well-intentioned, but not really thought-through. I won’t go into details, but I acted quickly and foolishly, and ended up causing a scene that publicly embarrassed myself and my husband.
Perhaps the situation would’ve been different had I read Proverbs 19:2 before I acted hastily.
Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes. (NLT)
When you’re walking down the road of infertility, it can feel like you’re moving at an impossibly slow pace. Time is of the essence- especially if you’re past a certain age. There’s so much waiting. You just want to get to the next treatment or the next cycle.
But Scripture warns us not to be too hasty. We are to seek knowledge, not quick action. In our (good) desire to become parents, we need to take the time to think through our actions and our plans. How will our treatment decisions affect others? Are we making wise choices with our time and our money in our quest for parenthood? Are we honoring God with the decisions we make during this time?
These are tough questions that don’t always have clear answers. But that’s exactly why it’s so important to take the time to pray through them and give good thought to our actions.
As you pray today, ask God to help you avoid the temptation make hasty decisions. Ask Him to give you the knowledge you need to make wise choices regarding your infertility.

I relate to this so much. As my husband and I are continuing to consider pursuing embryo adoption. We need so much wisdom and for God to guide us every step of the way. Some people are for. Some against. What really matters is God’s guidance and us making the right decision for us. We’re definitely not rushing into anything because as you say, such decisions can have a life changing impact on others. Step by step. May God give us wisdom, discernment and peace as we walk step by step with Him (rather than ahead of Him, behind Him or on a totally different route to the one He had planned for us) Amen!
Amen, Rachel! I’m so excited to see where God leads and your husband- whether it’s embryo adoption or something else. I think He is probably very pleased with your desire to seek Him in your decision.
I love this – esp as it relates to making decisions while we are in ANY period of waiting! This is so true, we need to be wise and careful, not quick to act!!!!
