Like many of you probably are, I’m a huge fan of the TV show, Friends. I actually didn’t watch it much when it was still airing, but I got into it my final year of college and then caught all the other episodes on re-run.
It’s been awhile since I’ve watched it, and I was reminded recently that Monica and Chandler faced infertility. What I didn’t realize the first time I saw this episode was how realistic it was. I found a clip online and was really moved by Courteney Cox’s and Matthew Perry’s acting. I think it’s one of the best portrayals of infertility in the media that I’ve seen. Some of the video’s comments say that Courteney Cox was actually struggling with infertility in real life at the same time. If that’s true, I admire her bravery in tackling what must have been a very raw subject.

Friend’s is easily my favorite show and has been since original airing. I always get so choked up when watching the fertility episodes. So very real to all of us. And yes, I believe it is true she struggled in real life.
I definitely admire her tackling that story line when she was in it in real life.
I love Friends. I watched religiously when it was on and watch reruns all the time. I hadnt seen this one since it first aired. Totally cried watching it just now. She did struggle in real life, not sure if it was at the same time. I think the only way this could have been more accurate is if she sobbed more. lol
LOL, you’re right. I was thinking, “I’d be bawling!”
I’m sure if I even saw that episode before infertility, that I didn’t grasp the heartache. And I KNOW that I didn’t act as calmly as Monica when receiving bad news! 🙂

Ah yes, I’m familiar with the SATC storyline, too. I tried one YouTube search for a clip from that storyline, but I got some sketchy videos in my search results so I stopped!
I’ve definitely never cried watching “Friends” before today. This hits a little too close to home.
However, if you watch Phoebe’s IVF episodes, they are comically inaccurate. Still hilarious, but I never caught it before I did IVF myself.

Yes, I’d forgotten about Phoebe’s IVF episodes when you posted it, but you’re right! She goes in for her transfer and gets a BFP on the same day! If only we were all so lucky!
Hahaha!! Exactly. Plus, they bring her embryos out in a dish and let her talk to them before the transfer. Yeah, right. 😉 It’s still my favorite show ever, and I do appreciate that they touched on infertility in multiple story lines. Well done, David Crane and Marta Kauffman.
I love Friends. I have watched all the episodes. And I don’t think my DH and I hugged upon hearing our bad news. We blamed each other for the infertile mess …
