I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart; I will sing your praises before the gods. I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. As soon as I pray, you answer me; you encourage me by giving me strength. Every king in all the earth will thank you, Lord, for all of them will hear your words. – Psalm 138:1-4 (NLT)
When you’re struggling with infertility, it can feel like you’ve gone weeks, months, or even years without God answering your prayers.
You’ve asked Him for a baby. Yet you still haven’t conceived or the adoptions have fallen through.
You’ve asked Him for a diagnosis. Yet the doctors still don’t know what’s wrong.
You’ve asked Him to provide funds for testing or treatment. Yet your bank account is still empty.
Is He ignoring your prayers?
Psalm 138:3 tells us that God actually answers our prayers as soon as we pray. Oh, He doesn’t always answer immediately in the way we want Him to. (Don’t you hate that?) But He answers us immediately by giving us strength.
Remember how we learned on Day 3 that the Holy Spirit prays for us when we don’t know how to pray or what to ask for? I believe that even if we’re asking God for things like babies, diagnoses, or money (all good things), the Holy Spirit is there in the background saying, “May she have strength, Lord.”
When it feels like our prayers consistently turned up empty and unanswered, remember that God always gives strength. It may be hard to feel like we are strong on certain days, but God’s strength is only made greater in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
