I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. – Ephesians 3:16-19 (NLT)
One of the most powerful things I’ve done recently was writing out extended portions of Scripture. I was participating in a Bible study on 1 and 2 Thessalonians and the author encouraged us to write out the entire two books. It was daunting at first, but she broke it down in small chunks each day, and it turned out to be very manageable. More importantly, it turned out to be very encouraging and powerful.
How often have you read a Scripture and then realized that your eyes moved over the words, but your brain never really processed what you were reading? I know I do that all the time! But when we write out Scripture, we are forced to slow down, to look at each word, and think more deeply about what we are reading.
I chose today’s Scripture because it perfectly states what I hope will happen to you (and me) during this coming month. God’s word can change us, empower us, and comfort us- but only if we let it sink into our hearts. If we don’t really read it, the words can’t enter in. So as we spend the next 31 days writing out God’s word, I pray that your roots will grow and that you fully experience God’s love during this time of infertility.
