How great are Your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep. A senseless man has no knowledge, nor does a stupid man understand this: That when the wicked sprouted up like grass and all who did iniquity flourished, it was only that they might be destroyed forevermore. But You, O LORD, are on high forever. For, behold, Your enemies, O LORD, for, behold, Your enemies will perish; All who do iniquity will be scattered. – Psalm 92:5-9 (NLT)
One of the greatest struggles in infertility is trying to understand God’s plans for us. It’s easy to think that if only we read our Bible more, if only we prayed more, or if only we were more spiritual, then we’d understand His plans.
Well, I have good news for you today!
It’s okay if you don’t understand His plans. Psalm 92:5 tells us that God’s works are great and that His thoughts are deep. In the original language of the Bible, the words we translate as “great” and “deep” actually mean unsearchable, indescribable, and incomprehensible. The psalmist is trying to tell us that no one can understand God and what He does.
Let that sink in. We are never going to fully understand God.
Even more, we’re actually supposed to revel in God’s greatness and in His incomprehensible nature.
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! – Romans 11:33
No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 2:11
Isn’t it a relief for the pressure to understand be lifted? We don’t have to figure anything out. We simply need to trust that His plans, though baffling and mystifying, are good.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11
Oh great, you might think, all I have to do is trust? It’s not that easy.
You’re right. But one way to build up your trust in God is by reminding yourself of His character attributes. When we get to know more about who God is, we will find it easier to trust what He does.
