Back at the end of January, I conducted my annual reader survey. Each year, I use the results of these surveys to plan my blog posts and projects for the coming year. I thought you might enjoy reading the results so I’m sharing them with you today.
The Data
Based the responses I received from the survey, here is what a typical Amateur Nester reader looks like:
- She is female (97%) between the ages of 25-35 (67%). The second largest group of readers are females, age 36-42 (27%).
- She is a Protestant Christian (82%) and she integrates her faith into almost every aspect of her daily life (78%)
- She holds a bachelor’s degree or higher (88%).
- She has been reading my blog for less than a year (70%), and can’t remember how she first found the blog (36%). She usually reads it on her phone (40%).
- She is actively trying to conceive via medicated fertility treatments (31%) or trying to figure out her next step in her fertility journey (22%).
- She’s most interested in reading about the spiritual and emotional aspects of infertility (29%), how infertility affects marriage (14%), and practical tips for surviving infertility.
- Her favorite posts are the updates on my personal journey, thoughts on faith, and the interviews with other infertility survivors.
- She may or may not have purchased one of my products as the responses were pretty evenly split between yes and no.
How I’m Using the Data
Based on the responses, here’s what I’m going to continue to do…
- I’ll continue talking about faith during infertility. When I first started the blog, I was worried that talking about my faith would turn off some readers. I’m not ashamed of what I believe, but I was sad to think that some readers might leave because of it. Now I’ve come to realize that talking about faith during infertility is exactly what some people are looking for. If some readers leave because of it, that’s okay. There are many other blogs out there that may resonate with them more.
- I’ll continue to talk about how infertility has shaped my marriage, and bring you insight from other couples whose marriage has been changed by infertility. My goal is to encourage those of you whose marriages are under strain and to point you towards resources and wisdom that can help.
- I’ll continue to do interviews on a regular basis. When I first started out, I was doing the interviews weekly. My stream of people willing to be interviewed has slowed down a bit, but I’m still working to publish interviews on a regular basis, even if it’s not every week.
- I’ll continue to share the practical tips I learned during my treatment. Anything that can make treatments a little bit easier is worth reading, right?
- I’ll continue to update you, in a sensitive way, about my own journey. Out of respect for those of you who are still struggling to conceive, I don’t talk a lot about my pregnancy and my daughter. But the survey showed that you are interested in hearing more. I will continue to give you brief, occasional updates and direct you to my other blog if you’re interested in reading more. I also plan on blogging about treatments again when we try for baby number two in the future (probably in early 2017).
