I keep a collection of quotes from books I read, and I was recently looking back through some of them when I came across this gem from Brene Brown’s Daring Greatly.
It made me think of all the people who have shared their stories on my blog. I’m humbled anytime anyone entrusts me with their story, and I think it’s such an empowering act to share what they’ve been through on the internet. Sharing our stories online increases awareness of infertility issues and breaks down the taboo that still exists.
But you don’t have to share your story online in order to make a difference. Spilling the details about your reproductive issues for the whole world to see is not for everyone! We can make a difference in smaller, quieter ways.
We can tell our story to just one person. Awareness happens one person at a time.
We can post links to articles about infertility on our social media. If we’re uncomfortable putting out stories out there, we can use the words of those who aren’t.
We can donate to organizations like RESOLVE, The Carry Camp, or The Choose Joy Conference.
We can provide educational resource to clergy and encourage them to keep in mind those in their congregation who are experiencing infertility.
There are so many ways we can share our stories and to squash infertility shame. Let’s all do our part- no matter how big or small.
Can you think of other ways we can share our stories and reduce shame? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
