Send her a card in the mail.
There’s something so fun about receiving a physical card in the mail. It means so much to know that someone took the time to hand-write a note. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what to say in the card. There are so many lovely encouragement cards available. Just write something like, “I’m thinking of you,” or “You’re in my thoughts.” It’s sure to be appreciated!
Send her an e-card.
If snail mail is not your thing, you can also send an e-card. I love DaySpring’s new (free!) e-Card Studio. It makes it super-easy and convenient to put some encouragement in your friend’s inbox.
Bring her dinner during treatments.
Infertility treatments are exhausting. I loved when friends brought me a healthy dinner. Just be sure to check with her about any dietary restrictions she may have.
Learn the basics of infertility etiquette.
Yes, there is such a thing as infertility etiquette. Your friend will appreciate if you take the time to learn about certain comments that may be unintentionally hurtful.
Ask how her husband is doing.
Remember, infertility affects men, too. We’re often so focused on how the women is feeling that we forget to pray for the man. Enlist your own husband to pray for him and to offer him encouragement, too.
Buy her a small gift.
Infertility testing and treatment can be very expensive. It’s probably been awhile since your friend splurged on herself. Treat her to a small gift to make her feel extra special.
Pray for her.
Prayer is the best form of encouragement. Tell your friend you will pray for her and then DO IT. Regularly and consistently. Remind her often that you’re still praying.
Remember, sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most. A woman experiencing infertility can feel so alone. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or time to let her know that she’s loved, support, and most importantly, not alone.
